Babinski Response

This test is used to detect the presence of an upper neutron involvement.

To check the Plantar Response, use the handle of the reflex hammer and firmly scrape the foot along the lateral border and then medially across the ball of the foot. The normal response is plantar flexion of the toes.

If the great toe dorsiflexes with or without dorsiflexion of the other toes it indicates an upper motor neuron lesion and is referred to as the Babinski response.
