Single Leg Stance Test

The Single Leg Stance Test is designed to detect the presence of Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome.

To perform this test, support the patient and ask them to stand on the affected limb while flexing the opposite knee to 90 degrees and hold this posture for 30 seconds. The test is considered positive if it exacerbates or reproduces the patient’s lateral hip pain. This indicates tendinopathy of the gluteus medius and/or gluteus minimus with or without coexisting bursal pathology, collectively called Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome.
