Pace Manoeuvre

The Pace Manoeuvre is designed to detect the presence of deep gluteal syndrome caused by involvement of structures within the deep gluteal space such as the piriformis muscle, the gemelli-obturator internus complex and the quadratrus femoris.

With the patient in the seated position and their feet together, place your hands on the outside of their knees and ask the patient to push their knees outwards against your resistance.

The test is considered positive if it reproduces or aggravates buttock pain, sciatica or shows muscle weakness on the involved side.
