Resisted Straight Leg Raise Test

The Resisted Straight Leg Raise test is designed to detect hip labral pathology.

To perform the test, ask the patient to flex their hip to about 30 degrees with the knee extended. Place your hand over the ankle and ask the patient to resist while you apply downward pressure.

The test is considered positive if it reproduces or aggravates the patient’s groin pain.

This test may also provoke pain due to hip flexor involvement such as in iliopsoas tendinopathy.
